Adidas has been one of the most iconic brands in the world for decades, and their shoes have been a big part of that. But how much do you really know about the history of Adidas shoes?
The history of adidas shoes
Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler started the company register back ‘Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik’ (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) in 1924, and it quickly became one of the leading names in sports footwear.
However, the brothers had a falling out shortly after the company was founded, and Rudolf Dassler went on to start his own competing brand, “Puma”. Adolf Dassler established the “Adolf Dassler adidas Sportschuhfabrik” and hired 47 workers to start brand “Adidas”.
In 1954, Dassler signed German soccer star Fritz Walter to wear Adidas shoes. This was a major coup for Adidas and it helped to put the brand on the map. From there, Adidas went on to sponsor some of the biggest names in sport, including Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, and Pele.
Adidas’s Stan Smith tennis shoe was initially introduced in 1965. Originally known as “Adidas Robert Haillet” in honor of French famous player Robert Haillet.
